Being an adult is so wild because you can just do so many things! You can become whatever kind of person you want, barring limitations lile money. I could teach myself how to play bass! I could take guitar lessons I couldn’t afford as a teenager! Life is wild and I think it’s easy to get hung up on what you can’t do but there are so many things that are usually in your direct control just waiting for you to grab the reigns of your own life and change them!
This is one of those really fundamental things that I never really understood well until this year- I used to think, “Oh I wish I was the kind of person who spent more time outdoors,” and so on, and it took me 22 years to figure out that you can just become the kind of person you want to be while still loving who you are now. If you want to be outdoorsy, all you have to do it go outdoors. It’s been a major revelation for me that seems like a very obvious thing in retrospect.
It is at least as massive as when I realized that there is no secret to things like going to the gym regularly- there’s no hack or trick, you just make up your mind and go. Remembering that has been useful for me for sure because I don’t spend time looking for tricks around doing things I want to do. I just do them.
